Create a ‘wow factor’ in a small room

A lot of people are moving to smaller homes or pairing down their interiors by taking a more minimalistic approach to design. Whether you are motivated to save money, or simply want to accommodate the space you currently have, there are many ways you can still make a statement in a small spcae without a full redesign.

A small interior has to be efficient. Every detail and corner becomes purposeful. But don’t let this stop you from designing your dream house! A small space can be both functional, beautiful, and aesthetic!

The following interior design tips will help you create the WOW factor in any of your small rooms.

A word on the wow factor…

In interior design, the wow’ factor is the ability to bring a sense of excitement to a space. We have all experienced that moment of wonder and impact upon walking into someone’s house or even looking at a picture on Instagram that makes us pause and feel something. As soon as you experience the room (literally or digitally), you think, “Wow, this is special.” You are in admiration of the space and the environment that was created.

The wow factor doesn’t have to be extravagant. It doesn’t have to be a dramatic architectural moment or a fountain in the middle of the room. When done subtly and with consideration, it can uplift the whole atmosphere. This is what we will be looking into today.

The first person we want your interior to wow is you so it should be done in such a way that excites you and aligns with your taste - after all, you will be the one living in it.

6 Ways To Create A Wow Factor In A Small Room

1) Add a large mirror

First, large mirrors make a small room looks bigger.
Second, mirrors create a focal point, a point of interest. It will spice things up! You can play with an interesting shape or frame - but try to keep the frame minimal and not too big compared to the actual mirror. You can also opt for a floor mirror against the wall - to help double the size of the room.

2) Reconsider your unused space

In small rooms, every space and corner is important. Go around the room and notice the areas that aren’t currently used. For example, the room under the staircase could be a great fit for a small desk or bookshelf. If you have space under your bed or sofa, you get a bed with storage underneath which will help declutter and allow the design elements to shine.

3) Create an accent wall

An accent wall is always a great idea if you want to create a wow effect. It brings a different energy to the room without overwhelming the overall design.

You can paint one wall or use an interesting wallpaper. If you desire to add more warmth and texture, why not go for a paneled wall? You can add a floral pattern using wood paneling and then paint it over with the color of your choice!

4) Go vertical

Walls can also be considered unused space! Bring them into your decoration by adding open shelving. That will create a really interesting look into the room. Make sure to keep them organized so they can bring a light feeling to the room.

5) Add contrast

Draw attention to a certain area of the room by adding contrast between the wall and the floor. This can create fun and dynamic distinctions. You can also create contrast by installing colorful window treatments against a more neutral wall.

6) Lighting

To play with heights, consider hanging a prominent light fixture that makes a statement in a more understated room. An oversized light can is an impactful decorative element in any space.
