Spring break is coming up and I’m already thinking about getaways that I wish we were taking. My boys are at different schools and they only have one week of overlap this year making it difficult to get away somewhere far and exotic. Our go to for a quick getaway is Palm Springs, a place I love for it’s midcentury modern design and timeless architecture. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs is basically my home away from home. We usually rent an airbnb (the one I pick was designed by an interior designer) and enjoy all of our favorite Palm Springs activities while enjoying the comforts of a well designed midcentury home. This includes visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum, shopping all the vintage furniture and interior design shops and hanging poolside for me. My boys love the Palm Spring Air Museum which has amazing views of the runway at the Palm Springs Airport to watch planes land and take off.

Monday night Bingo at the Ace Hotel is a must as is a visit to the PS Air Bar (adults only)! For an amazing jazz or drag show, The Purple Room is the spot.

This year I’m particularly excited because Desert X is back. Desert X is an amazing curated art show that takes place at multiple locations across the Coachella Valley. There is some amazing experimental art and sculptures that are incredible for the whole family to enjoy. We’ve been going for years and it never disappoints. We usually take a couple of days to visit and view all of the installations, but it can also be a super fun day trip, although you may not get to see everything in one day.

If you are wondering where to stay in Palm Springs, I have a number of favorites when not renting an Airbnb. Check out the family friendly Ace Hotel designed by Commune Design if traveling with kids. For a romantic or adults only getaway, I highly recommend the Martin Lawrence Bullard designed Colony Palms Hotel.
